The Last Day of 2025: An Honest Audit

It's December 31st.
The last day of 2024.
Right now, you're probably doing one of two things:
Option A: Frantically trying to finish "one more thing" before the year ends.
Option B: Already checked out mentally, going through the motions until you can finally rest.
I have a different suggestion:
Spend 30 minutes doing an honest audit.
Not of your business metrics. Not of your revenue or profit margins.
An audit of how you actually spent 2024.
Because if you don't get honest about what happened this year, 2025 will be exactly the same.
The Questions Nobody Asks (But Should)
Pull out a piece of paper. Or open a blank document.
Answer these questions honestly. No performance. No one will see this but you.
Question 1: How Did You Actually Spend Your Time?
Not how you WISH you spent it. Not how you PLANNED to spend it.
How did you ACTUALLY spend it?
Think about a typical week in 2024:
How many hours on email?
How many hours in meetings?
How many hours on strategic work?
How many hours on administrative tasks?
How many hours on work that someone else could've done?
Now add it up:
Hours per week on high-value work only you can do: ___
Hours per week on necessary but delegable work: ___
Hours per week on low-value time wasters: ___
Be honest.
My guess? You spent 60-70% of your time on work that didn't require your unique expertise.
Question 2: What Did You Postpone?
What strategic initiatives did you plan to tackle in 2024 that are still sitting on your "someday" list?
That new program you wanted to launch?
That book you wanted to write?
That business development you kept postponing?
That system overhaul you needed?
That team training initiative?
List them:
Now ask: Why didn't these happen?
The honest answer is probably: "I didn't have time."
But dig deeper: "Why didn't you have time?"
Because you were consumed by operational work that could've been delegated.
Question 3: What Did You Sacrifice?
What did you give up in 2024 to keep the business running?
How many:
Family dinners did you miss?
Kid's events did you attend with your laptop?
Weekends did you work instead of rest?
Vacations did you ruin by checking email constantly?
Nights did you stay up past midnight "catching up"?
Morning workouts did you skip because you "didn't have time"?
Books did you leave unread?
Hobbies did you abandon?
Friendships did you neglect?
Be specific.
Because these sacrifices aren't abstract. They're the life you didn't live while building your business.
Question 4: How Did You Feel Most of the Time?
Close your eyes and remember a typical Tuesday in 2024.
How did you feel?
Energized or exhausted?
Strategic or reactive?
In control or overwhelmed?
Present or distracted?
Proud or guilty?
Fulfilled or drained?
Circle the honest answer.
This is the feeling you carried through 365 days of 2025.
Is this the feeling you want for 2026?
Question 5: What Would You Change If You Could?
If you could redesign 2025 with perfect hindsight, what would you do differently?
Would you:
Delegate sooner?
Hire help instead of trying to do it all?
Say no to commitments that drained you?
Protect strategic thinking time?
Set better boundaries?
Prioritize your health and family?
Build systems instead of just working harder?
Write down the top 3 things you'd change:
Here's the good news: You CAN make these changes in 2026.
The Pattern I See Every December 31st
Every year, I have the same conversation with leaders on New Year's Eve:
Me: "How was 2024?"
Them: "Busy. Really busy. We hit our revenue goals but... I'm exhausted."
Me: "What would make 2025 different?"
Them: "I don't know. Better time management? More discipline?"
Here's what I want you to understand:
You don't need better time management. You don't need more discipline. You don't need to wake up earlier or work harder.
You need to delegate.
The Math That Explains Everything
Here's why 2024 felt the way it did:
Total Hours Available in 2024: 8,760 hours
Minus Sleep (8 hrs/day): -2,920 hours
Remaining: 5,840 waking hours
Where they went:
Work (60-70 hrs/week):
~3,300 hoursFamily/personal (40 hrs/week):
~2,080 hoursEverything else: ~460 hours
Now look at how you spent those 3,300 work hours:
Strategic, high-value work: 30% = 990 hoursNecessary, delegable work: 50% = 1,650 hoursLow-value time wasters: 20% = 660 hours
Here's the tragedy:
You spent 1,650 hours in 2024 doing work that someone else could've done 80% as well.
That's 206 full 8-hour workdays.
41 work weeks.
Almost an entire YEAR of your life.
What Changes in 2025 (If You Decide to Change It)
Imagine this alternate version of 2025:
You delegate those 1,650 hours of necessary-but-delegable work.
Now you have:
Strategic work: 990 hours (same)Delegable work: 0 hours (delegated)New capacity: 1,650 hours
What could you do with 1,650 hours?
Launch that program (200 hours)
Write that book (300 hours)
Double business development (400 hours)
Build those systems (250 hours)
Still have 500 hours left for strategic thinking, learning, rest
This is what becomes possible when you delegate.
Not hypothetically. Mathematically.
Your December 31st Decision
You're at a fork in the road:
Path A: Keep doing what you did in 2024
Work 60-70 hours/week
Spend 70% of time on delegable work
Postpone strategic initiatives
Sacrifice family time, health, hobbies
Feel overwhelmed and reactive
Repeat in 2026, 2027, 2028...
Path B: Make 2025 different
Delegate 15-20 hours/week of operational work
Spend 70% of time on strategic work
Actually execute on postponed initiatives
Be present with family, prioritize health
Feel energized and proactive
Build sustainable success
Which path will you choose?
The First Step for 2025
If you choose Path B, here's your first step:
Between now and January 5th, identify 3 tasks to delegate first:
The daily energy drain (probably email management)
The weekly time thief (probably meeting coordination)
The monthly focus-killer (probably travel logistics or expense reports)

One Year From Today
It's December 31st, 2025.
You're doing this exact same audit.
Which version of 2025 will you be reviewing?
Version A: Same patterns. Same overwhelm. Same sacrifices. Same postponed dreams.
Version B: Strategic focus. Reclaimed time. Present with family. Dreams executed.
The choice is yours.
And the choice happens today, not January 1st.
What I Hope for You
As this year ends, here's what I hope for you in 2025:
I hope you delegate what drains you.I hope you protect what energizes you.I hope you say no to what doesn't serve you.I hope you say yes to what does.
I hope you work strategically instead of reactively.I hope you build instead of just maintain.I hope you lead instead of just manage.
I hope you're present with the people you love.I hope you prioritize your health.I hope you pursue what fulfills you.
I hope 2025 feels different than 2024.
Not because you work harder.
Because you finally work smarter.
